Explainer Videos Explained

Clarity Through Video

Not only does an explainer video help your viewer understand your message, it also includes visuals to aid in comprehension, matches your brand identity to increase user trust, and keeps them engaged the whole time. Plus, it adds a level of polish that sets you a step above the competition and allows users to share the clip to spread your message. Shields SGF can help you create explainer videos for your company, product, app, process or more. Here are three clients who came to SSGF for help explaining something to their audiences:

BILH Needham

BILH Needham

The team at Beth Israel Lahey Hospital - Needham contacted Shields SGF for help with creating a video explaining the mental health app, mindLAMP, being used in their Emergency Room. Not only did the app and how it worked need to be explained, but BILH also wanted to dive into how it was integrated into a larger care plan and how patients were being supported on their mental health recovery.

We captured all this and more in an approachable, colorful 2.5 minute video that echoed the other branding we had developed for the program. SSGF involved the BILH team all the way along the process, from scripting, to storyboarding, to animation and release.

Native Plant App

Native Plant App

In 2024 the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs asked Shields to develop a web app that helps gardeners across the state learn, sort, filter and discover what species of native plants would work best in their gardens. This initiative aimed to increase drought resiliency, benefit local ecosystems, connect MA gardeners to their local nurseries and more.

Once the web app was built, however, OEA needed to spread the word! Shields SGF was able to assist with this as well, adapting the app’s art style, then developing a script, storyboard and then full 1-minute long video. Topics explained include how the app works, the benefits it provides and why audiences might care. The video was also oriented vertically for social media sharing via Tiktok and Instagram, hoping to reach younger audiences.

Soar MA

Soar MA

The Massachusetts Office of Economic Empowerment contacted Shields SGF for help explaining SoarMA, a two-year pilot program aimed at families saving for college. They specifically wanted to speak to the families of seventh grade students in the state’s gateway cities, so we knew that we’d be developing the video to reach a broad audience.

After script development, storyboarding and development of the visual style, the key characters and the assets to animate, Shields SGF partnered with Drive 80 to bring the video to life. The resulting video is just over a minute and helps families learn about the college savings program.
